Common Auralia Problems and Solutions

- No sound is heard

I get error messages about THREED.VBX or another file
- Windows 95 compatibility
For these topics, your system must be capable of playing
standard MIDI files. To verify this, use the Media Player program
provided with Microsoft Windows, to play the provided demonstration file
CANYON.MID.
If this does not play correctly, run Control Panel, select Drivers, and
check that [MCI] MIDI Sequencer and MIDI Mapper are installed. Note that
although you can select your MIDI output device in Auralia
Administrations MIDI setup, this does not apply to any of the above
topics. (This was omitted from the printed Users Guide.)
If both these drivers are installed, choose MIDI Mapper from the Control
Panel menu, and check that each channel in your current MIDI setup is set
to the appropriate Port Name. Auralia uses channel 1 for melodic output,
and channel 10 for rhythmic (percussive) output. If you have made changes
to your system here, check again with Media Player.
On Windows 95, these settings are found in Control Panel, under
Multimedia Properties, Midi.
If Media Player does play correctly, try playing one of the MIDI files in
your Auralia directory. If these do play correctly, please contact Rising
Software for further assistance.
One customer has noted that on his Creative Labs SoundBlaster Pro cards,
MCI: MIDI Sequencer and MIDI Mapper were both installed and set
correctly, but Auralia still did not play for these topics. This problem
was solved by enabling Don't use MIDI transposition in the Auralia
Administration MIDI setup area.
The installation program was unable to copy the file THREED.VBX (or
another file named) to your hard disk. Usually this occurs because
another program you are running is already using this file. We recommend
that you quit all other Windows applications before beginning Auralia
installation. If you are using another desktop manager instead of
Program Manager, you might try returning to Program Manager temporarily
to perform the installation.
Under Windows 3.1, Auralia will play a bugle tune when loaded, and
a door slamming sound when quitting. Under Windows 95, one of these
sounds may fail to occur. This has been fixed in the latest
update.
There are no other known compatibility problems with Microsoft Windows 95.
